History of Anchor Splash®

AnchorSplash© is a major fundraiser of the Delta Gamma collegians! A swim competition, it is one of the most well recognized philanthropic fundraisers in the Greek world today. Epsilon Sigma has been holding Anchor Splash at SDSU since the late 1980s.

The Beta Tau Chapter, University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida, proudly claims the distinction of holding the first Anchor Splash©. The date of the event, February 19, 1966, was chosen to honor Beta Tau's 20th anniversary on Miami's campus. This inaugural splash featured diving for oranges, the Funniest Swimsuit Contest and a raft relay.

Soon other Delta Gamma chapters followed their lead and started their own traditions. Anchor Splash® was on its way to becoming a major social event and one of the most successful sorority philanthropic fund-raisers in the country.

In 1936, Delta Gamma selected Aid to the Blind and Sight Conservation as an international project. Some chapters teach children who are blind to swim as part of Anchor Splash® . Others invite persons who are visually impaired to be their special guests for the occasion.

Today, more than 110-collegiate chapters present Anchor Splash®. From this stellar event and other fund raisers, collegians have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Delta Gamma Foundation philanthropies of Aid to the Blind and Sight Conservation; Scholarships, Fellowships and Loans; and educational programming.
